Snipets

Thank you so much for all the get well soon messages. You are all special friends (and I wish those that are lurking would find the courage to leave comments. I would love to hear from you; honest). My pneumonia is ''almost'' gone. Antibiotics were done yesterday and I still need the puffer for another week. Most important, my mom is doing very well also. Who knew how serious (life treatening) low sodium could be.

Here are a few snipets from around our home :

Table next to my rocking chair.

This year's pussywillow pick.

Beautiful sunshine we got to enjoy today.

Elemental dishes - fire, air, water (times two) and earth, one green and one brown, finally displayed in their new(old) armoire. Estimated to be around 120 years old.

Fresh morning eggs waiting to be washed and stored. Sherrie, this is my egg holder that I've mentioned earlier this week.

Baywindow with some of my favorite things. See that fishing basket ? given to me by my brother when they moved last Fall. It was handmade by a dear friend of my father's who passed away last year. The giant hornets nest I found years ago. Can you tell my favorite color is blue ? Heart-shapped stained glass in the window - bought at a yardsale a couple of years ago for 25 cents. The little woodland fairy hanging in the window - a special 50th birthday gift from my dear niece. Our home is a simple, fonctionnal farmhouse with some antiques (wish I had more). I don't like an arts and craft home. All the rafia, heart-shaped everything, plaid, forest green and burgendy. So yes, I don't really like that wallpaper, needs to go. But you see, neither Dave nor I really like the tedious task of removing wallpaper. This home was ''papared'' wall to wall, upstairs and downstairs and over the years we've taken it all down except for this tiny corner and the den (which we are afraid to remove because we know underneath it's old, very old, plaster that will come falling down with the paper). Oh, and I don't go for border paper either. I love clean painted walls.

Did a lot of yard work today. Should have a post for you tomorrow.

Catching some sun

As most of you already know, two of our favorite past times for Dave and I are beachcombing and collecting beachglass - both going hand in hand. I would estimate that we've been collecting glass for almost 15 years. Recently we decided to select some of our favorites and have them weaved into this beautiful suncatcher by this amazing local artist. She repurpose's copper wiring. It's nicely displayed in our kitchen window where the sun catches it all afternoon (that's is; when we do have sun these days).

And here is someone that decided to catch some sun yesterday afternoon in our backyard... (you might have to click to enlarge the picture).

Anyone else enjoying the gorgeous sun we've had the past two days !

Remember when...

... music came in the form of round vinyl discs.

The reason Mr. Home Computer had to get a tune-up was to accomodate a USB turntable I got for Dave as a Christmas gift. Now in his spare time he will transfer all his vinyl records on CDs. The picture above shows you one wall in Dave's music room and we all know how many walls are in a room so imagine a very cluttered tiny room. Music is very much in my husband's blood; it's his passion and I love him for that.

Thrifting, crochet and Puss

Went to Frenchy's yesterday, found this cute little pitcher/vase for .25 Don't know what I'll put in it (or where I'm going to put it). If acorns were more plentiful around here that's what I would fill it up with but we don't really have a whole lot of acorn trees in this part of the woods. And yes, that's Puss' tail you see in the background... on the table.

Also found the first season box set of The Apprentice. My daughter and I are/were (hasn't been on for a long time) huge fans of The Apprentice (not necessarily Trump but the show itself) and when the first series came out on DVD I bought it for $45 (mine is on the left) and yesterday I bought the one on the right for $1 which I am giving to my daughter. All 5 CDs are in there and in excellent condition.

I took a break from knitting and have started a crochet project. It's a surprise for someone very special.

I will leave you with a very blurry (sorry) picture of Puss. He's enjoying his stay with us but his maman misses him very much.

I am eagerly and excitedly awaiting a visit in a couple of weeks from a very special person in my life... can't wait to see her.

Bleuberries and the fog

Dave loves picking blueberries and this summer it's a very productive year as far as berries go. He went four times since last week and we now have a 10 litre container full in the freezer for the upcoming winter season. Yesterday I baked a pie and two loaves of zucchini/blueberry bread.

Last night after blueberry picking we went to Mavillette Beach. Ah, the good old Maritime fog. We hardly ever get fog inland (as seen in the top picture of Dave and his blueberries). Me with coffee in hand and Dave with his energy drink.

I found a heart rock to add to my collection in the garden.

Seaside creatures

The forecast yesterday was a warning of torential rain and wind but by yesterday afternoon they had lifted the warning - the storm was going to by-pass us in the ocean. So we ended up having nice sunny weather today. Tonight Dave and I went for a strole along the seaside looking for beachglass (we found about 50 pieces; sorry no pictures). A familiar scene along the beach - piles of discarded clam and lobster shells.

Taking a break (check the hairdo).

Playing in the warm salty water.

A tiny live crab eager to hide in the sand (see my shadow in the water).

This is not the same crab (no, we did'nt cook that tiny crab). It's an empty shell we found on the beach.

Don't you think this picture looks like a painting ? Dave took this picture, he probably wants to paint it on canvas.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far.

30 hour jaunt to Halifax

Dave had meetings in Halifax Friday evening and Saturday til noon so I went along... for the ride (and some shopping of course).

We left Friday morning at 7:45 a.m. This was the scene from our back porch.

Anyone familiar with The Trailer Park Boys ? (I'm not really up to date with this, only from what I hear and what I heard). Anyways... this is Bubbles' bar in downtown Halifax.

Some of my purchases...

Bought two pieces for my ''soon to be completed'' elemental place settings. Bowl for the earth place setting and the other one for fire.

Lastly, I will leave you with what I ate for supper last night - sourdough bread, grape tomatoes, black olives and feta cheese. Hmmmmmm good !

Vintage

Every vintage christmas ornament in this basket has its own history... some I know the history and others I don't because I bought them at Frenchy's or at antique stores but I'm certain that they have a history.

I love vintage ornaments... don't you ?

Nuts over nutcrackers

Snow people all over the house...

Studying the yogic philosophy they teach us that our lives should be free of clutter - in our minds as well as our homes. I am working on both but when it comes to Christmas there is just no way - I can't 'not' display my collection of snowmen.

Prized possessions

After reading my niece's blog post of today it made me stop and think about the things I have in my home that are priceless to me... some have been with me for a number of years, some for only months but no matter what - they will always be my prized possessions. I know, I know, you're saying ''where are the pictures of her children, her wedding pictures, etc''. Yes, my home is full of pictures of my two beautiful children and I have an entire photo album from my wedding. I also have numerous gifts given to me by my children and husband and these gifts are perfectly placed at different loctions in our home so as to admire them each and every day. But I have objects that are outstanding in my heart... they make me DREAM !

Here are a few of my most prized possessions (I will post more later) :

In February 2006 my cousin, Aurèl Comeau, offered to teach and help me make this deer skin drum. I hope he know's (I've told him numerous times) how much I appreciated his kindness. He is a very talented person.

Ten years ago, my dear husband made this hutch for me. It is made from driftwood we found while beachcombing together along our beaches.

A very good friend of my father's, Ulysse Maillet is a master basket weaver (and many, many more talents). Unfortunately, he now reside's in a special care facility. Fifteen years ago, he offered me this beautiful basket. I feel honored to have received one because he did'nt give away his master pieces to just anyone.

On one of his trips to France, my husband, Dave, brought me back these beautiful seashells he had hand picked on the beaches of a small remote island in France. This was 13 years ago and I can still smell the ocean when I open the jar. Wasn't this an amazing gift !

I know I mentioned in my intro that pictures did'nt really count but this one does. I was 16 when my father died. We were fishing buddies. This is the only picture I have of him and me (it might be difficult to figure out the content of the picture. He is holding me in his hands, I'm just a wee baby).

When I was one year old my parents bought the house that I've always known as home. It was a gigantic house (3 levels) full of antiques, books and hidden treasures. My parents cleared a lot of the stuff they would'nt be using - my mom kept this book. She wanted to give it to her first child that would graduate from high school. I got the book. It dates back to the 1800's and it is in very bad shape. I keep it stored in a trunk. Don't know if you can see in the picture but I wrote my name on the cover, with a pen (when I was a little girl, I loved to play school and this was the teacher's book I guess).

Oh boy, this one dates back. This tiny cup and saucer was given to me by my godmother as an Easter gift. If my memory serves me right, I think I was around 7 years old.

Sorry for the bad picture. My maternal grandparents' marriage license.

My very special and favorite aunt, tante Angèle, died 5 years ago. This little pin cushion belonged to her.

Another treasure from the house my parents bought when I was one year old. This was ''the special plate''. On special occasions my mom would let my brother and I use this plate (each our turn). Three years ago, my mom was giving away items for a yard sale and I just happened to glance in one of the boxes and there it was ''the plate''. She was giving it away. Oh no, no - the plate now hangs pretty on my kitchen wall.

I am a very sentimental person. Every item has a story, thank you for listening (reading).
