No knead bread with olives

As mentioned in a previous post I made AfricanKelli's no knead bread a second time in less then a week but this time I put in black olives and dried rosemary from last summer's crop from my herb kitchen garden.

It was a totally different bread... different texture but still very good and tasty. It would be a perfect bread to have with blue cheese and red wine - yum ! After I had removed it from the oven I brushed the top with a very light coat of virgin olive oil.

Will you be celebrating pancake day ?

Next Tuesday (February 5) is international pancake day. There will be yummy pancakes in our household on this day... what about yours ? We refer to this celebration as "mardi gras" (fat Tuesday). Pancakes for breakfast and a cajun feast for supper. Stay tuned for pictures.

Happy Birthday Tabi

Early morning of April 1995, we found a very sick and abused little pup in our backyard. Someone had left her (probably for dead) in the ditch. The Vet told us she was around 3 months old at the time so we estimated her birthday being January 31. We nursed her back to health and fell in love with her immediately... she's been a member of our family ever since. She's the most loving, caring and affectionate dog I have ever seen. We know she's grateful to us for saving her life, and she shows her appreciation every single day. Unfortunately, her health is not the best this past year so we are enjoying every single moment we have with our wonderful Tabi. (I had a bad hair day and my shirt is inside-out).

Snow Day - toasty warm

Today was my first snow day from work of the season. I kept the wood fire in the furnace going so it was nice and toasty in the house... sure not the case out there. My big project of this snow day - clean my walk-in-closet. Man, why do we save all those empty boxes anyways !

Hard to believe January is almost over... anticipating February.

Renovations

Random pictures of our daughter's newly renovated bedroom. I can't wait for her to come home for a visit so she can see the transformation. Dave did the paint job and our son and his friend Simon did the flooring. Everyone did an amazing job. Thank you very much for the beautiful work.

Bread

This past weekend I made AfricanKelli's no knead bread. A very easy recipe and one of the best tasting bread I've made yet. We ate it tonight with a delicious homemade lasagna (sorry no pic of the lasagna). While the bread was baking - the house smelled heavenly !

(Edited - the bread is gone. Made a lunch sandwich for my son this morning with the last two slices. The majority was eaten with supper last night (Sunday) and everyone munched on bread all evening. Next time, I am trying black olives and rosemary with this recipe. This one is a keeper).

Taking a break

We have been in serious renovations for the past week including this past weekend. So this afternoon Dave and I took a much needed break and headed off to Jackie's (similar to Frenchy's). I found a few pieces of fabric and this cute herb planter for $1. I might put it to use later this week.

When we got back... ahhhhhh, a nice cup of tea.

More Frenchy's

Found this set of 12 dish clothes at Frenchy's... how cute is that. They're American - July has our neighbour's flag.

Found the two first napkins at one Frenchy's two weeks ago and found the last two at a different Frenchy's today.

Meeko

Our daughter and her fiancé got a brand new puppy. His name is Meeko.

Margaritas, snow and the ocean

A few pictures of today...

Dave removing more snow from yesterday's mini-storm.

Found this cute little holder at Frenchy's last night - I will use it as an incense holder. Which reminds me, I'm almost out of Nag Champa.

Oh, how I miss the ocean. At this time of the year it is more difficult to plan beachcombing excursions... only a few more months.

Tonight I prepared a batch of frozen margarita for Saturday night's pre-dancing gathering with friends.

Frenchy's

Stopped at Frenchy's tonight on my way to yoga class. Found about 4 yards of this beautiful fabric... I will add it to my stash. One of these days I will surprise you and post a sewing project made from this nice fabric. In the meantime, keep doing what makes you happy !

Snow

Pictures taken tonight in our backyard...

And to think that this morning there was not a single patch of snow anywheres to be found. Although, this beautiful fluffy snow is kind of pretty to look at.

Happy and Content

It was unusually dark at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. It looked like something was brewing on the horizon. Later that evening we had a thunderstorm. Not a speck of snow to be found on the ground anywheres... tomorrow might be another story though.

Friday evening we played a round of my son's new Monopoly game. I had to leave the game at 10 p.m. on account that I had to catch a good night's sleep to attend my yoga workshop the next morning.

Saturday morning I was up bright and early (and what a gorgeous sunny warm day it was) getting ready for my workshop. Had this delicious steal cut oats before hitting the road.

13 hours of yoga - that's what my weekend was about and man am I ever happy and content... but I have to say - I have a few sore spots here and there but it was ALL worth it.

Good clean food

I am slowly getting out of my flu blahhhhh. Any health issue can put it's toll on the body - physically and mentally. For the 10 days that I was sick all I felt like doing was sleep. I had no appetite so I ate very little and nothing too high on the clean food scale.

I am reintegrating good clean organic whole foods in my diet... and it feels good !

I have not eaten meat since last August. Last night (as a test) I ate one single meatball made from ground beef. Less then an hour later, I had stomach cramps like you would'nt believe. My thought is that it was the meatball.

I wish everyone an excellent day tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after... For those that are running around, stressing out and missing out on so many precious moments, please slow down and for those that have slowed down - keep smiling.

If we can't be happy today or tomorrow, when can we be happy !!!!!

Monopoly anyone...

My son bought himself this very cool and interesting version of a childhood boardgame - Monopoly. It is the electronic banking version plus it's the Canadian Edition, Wooohooo. Although I am very faithful to the original version I can't wait to try this one out. It has little credit cards and a banking machine... what has this world come to !!!!!

Nature

Here are random pictures of our jaunt this afternoon. They are forecasting abnormal warm temperatures for the next 4 days.

We visited our two marvelous wonders of nature - the ocean and the woods. First stop, the beach in Saulnierville.

Beaver's den, in the meadow close to the beach.

Next stop - a small logging village ''Margo''.

Our last stop was closer to home (less then half a mile) - an old saw mill that was made into a museum.

After three hours of local sightseeing we were hungry so we headed home to make a traditional acadian dish - ''fring frang'' (grated potatoes).

Slow

2008 was not my best ever new year's beginning with that nasty flu I got on Christmas Day but I can actually affirm that since Friday I am regaining my strength. Which I am going to need by next weekend. I have a two day yoga workshop and I am very much looking forward to going. The upcoming week I will mostly eat foods that strengthen my body physically and for my spiritual body I will do a yoga routine daily (which I usually do but had stopped on account of the flu). I am returning to work tomorrow after three weeks off (2 weeks vacation and 1 week sick days) which means I will get outside more with my walking 30 minutes early morning before starting work and an hour during my lunch hour.

Here's to good health ! Cheers.....

Happy 2008

The reason I haven't posted in the past week is because I've been sick. Call it a cold, the flu, whatever... but I had a severe COUGH !!!!! I am not often sick so I suppose I can't complain with this week of coughing. I am feeling much better today (must return to work tomorrow after more then 2 weeks off) so I went outside to take these lovely pictures of the first day of 2008.

Wishing everyone a healthy and joyful 2008 and may you make all your dreams come true.
