Update on the chicken coop

A slight progress since I last showed you our chicken coop under construction. It's all framed now Dave will start covering the sides and roof. We had rain this week up until today so the construction was put on hold since the weekend.

Earth Hour 2010

The dog was a little confused on why we were turning off all the lights and having only candles to illuminate the room but other than that Earth Hour in our home was honored again this year at 8:30 p.m.
Our tiny village of 10 houses was half dark and half lite, which is good.

Another golden day

We had two beautiful sunny weeks, than we had a couple of days of rain and today the sunshine was back. Everything seems golden doesn't it.

Fancy shell found at the thrift store.

We ended up buying two more cords of firewood. At this time of the year we don't have a big fire going during the day when we're out of the house but in the evening we boost up the fire. And this can go on until the end of May.

Last but not least - the beginnings of our chicken coop.

My product review is coming up on the weekend... stay tuned.

Spring

Happy Spring everyone !!!!!

Dave and I had another nice walk along the shores of Saint Mary's Bay today. I mean look at the weather we've been having for almost two weeks.

Mavillette Beach

We have a very beautiful beach about a 10 minute drive from our home - Mavillette Beach. Dave and I went for a walk as the sun was setting tonight. Last week I bought a polarizing lens for my camera. I wanted to show you the difference between pictures ::

First picture without the polarizing lens... but still a very nice view of the ocean.

... can you see the difference in the colors; especially the blue. I only turned about a foot to my left to take the second picture so it was pretty much the same sky, sand and water.

Suds on the beach.

Close-up of a small stone on the beach.

Beach worm tracks in the sand; again very close-up.

Since the weekend

Here is what we've been up to since the weekend ::

Still working on the second sock of my second pair of wool socks. I love this self-pattern yarn. I love it so much I went and bought another ball in shades of blue to start my third pair as soon as I finish these.

Trees on a property are so beautiful and peaceful but each Spring we have to pick a zillion little twigs; I call it ''pick-up sticks''.

Over-wintered leeks.

I'm happier than usual this week - my seed order arrived.

Enjoying putting clothes on the line to dry.

And yes, the socks are finished !!!!! Time to cast-on for the next pair.

Late afternoon :: around the gardens

Everyone is talking about it...

... around the water cooler, at the coffee shop, at the thrift store...

... Spring is in the air. It might not be here according to the calendar but it sure felt like it walking around the gardens after work today.

CSN Stores :: product review coming soon

I am very much a homebody. Anyone that knows me can attest to that. I love our 200 year
old farmhouse it is our little piece of paradise and when I get home from work it takes a
lot to get me back out in the “real world”; especially going in stores with crowds to buy
stuff we need. I want to stay home to tend my organic vegetable gardens and cook with those yummy veggies. With today’s technology I find myself venturing more and more into
on-line shopping and might I add that I have had only positive results so far.

Today I found CSN. I never heard of them before but after discovering them this morning,
I spent my entire lunch hour browsing through the numerous products they offer. I just could'nt stop myself. They have over 200 stores to shop from with brand name products that we all could use, from cookware to cameras, to kids bedding. I'm not in the market for kids bedding at the moment but I almost wanted one of those baby cribs just to admire the beauty.

One of CSN’s stores is cookware.com. Let me tell you right now, you’ll want to check
them out. I already have a list of favorites. I’ve been looking for a clay baker to bake
my no-knead bread for over a year, they have it. Yes, I’ve clay bakers on-line but the shipping was more than the actual cost of the product. Am I the only one that hates it when this happens.

Enough said, you’ll have to visit to see all the cool stuff they carry in their wonderful stores. I am so excited because I get to review the Le Creuset 12-Ounce Petite Oval Casserole.

My ancestors are from France so my love of cooking (...and eating) dates way back and I prefer
the slow movement for cooking so products like this casserole are the perfect addition to my cooking tools. Go ahead check them out, if you don’t you’ll miss out on a great deal and let someone else have a go at it.

Stay tuned for my review of this product.

Out and About

What a beautiful day to head out with my camera.

Checking my camera memory card I found the next two pictures that I forgot I had.

A local craftsman works his magic at refinishing antiques. We had our old antique rocking chair stripped and oiled a few weeks ago. He does everything by hand (the scrapping; no chemicals) than he uses an oil that he mixes himself made up of 6 different oils. We were so pleased with his work that when we picked-up the chair we left him another piece of antique.

Below - two Frenchy finds.
