Halloween and Christmas

Sorry for the lack of blogging on my part lately. Nothing much going on around here worth blogging about except renovations on the exterior of our home (yes, renovations AGAIN), bringing in 9 cords of firewood to keep us toasty warm this winter and a whole lot of not so interesting stuff at work. Sometimes boring stuff get in the way of living but it needs to be done...

Those of you that celebrate halloween - are you ready for Friday ? I think I am. I wish I had more kids coming for trick or treat at the door. We only get a few.

A bunch of us girls (6 to be exact) are dressing up as the Spice Girls. I will post pictures after Friday evening - you will be surprised at the costumes. We are going out at a halloween dance.

Is it possible - in two months, Christmas will be over and done with for another year. Did ya'll know how much I'm in love with everything traditional about Christmas.

My daughter came home for a visit on the weekend. I always have her tell me what she would love to eat... something she hasn't eaten in a while. She always tells me she doesn't want me to fuss over her but doing things for her is a pure joy for me. I made a seafood chowder with homemade rolls and a pumpkin pie.

We had the pleasure of having Meeko come over with her. He went back to New Brunswick with Ginette on Sunday but...

... Puss stayed with us. He'll be staying for at least a month.

Wishing everyone a good, happy week.

Swap news

I blogged about a swap that I took part in here. This was way in August. My swap buddy was (is) Rachel from New Zealand and at the end of August I got my parcel with my beautiful pin cushion and needlebook that Rachel so wonderfully handmade for me. We both shipped out our parcels on the same date - it took 10 weeks for mine to reach Rachel. I was getting worried. Below are pictures of the pin cushion and needlebook I made for Rachel.

I love participating in swaps. You get to meet so many wonderful friends (bloggers).

Comments

This post is primarily a test to see if my blogging friends can leave comments "again". Some of you may have noticed on my last post that the Comments" option was disactivated. I am sorry for having to do that to all you nice and friendly people but let me tell you not all bloggers are nice. I accidently published a comment on that post that wasn't very nice and I could'nt delete just one comment and I did'nt want to delete the entire post so I had to disactivate the Comments option.

Have a great Thursday ! I leave you with another family picture we took last month. The sun was too bright in our eyes...

Thankful weekend

Thanksgiving weekend has been wonderful, peaceful and relaxing. I enjoy Thanksgiving very much but I am thankful ALL year long for everything that goes on around here - the good things and the not so good things. As you may or may not know about me, I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason so those not so happy things that come by our home once in a while do happen for a reason and most of the time it all ends up in a ''happy'' thing.

Dave had kidney stones 13 years ago and last Thursday he experienced the same symptoms as he did way back then. We ended up going to the emergency room at the hospital but ended up coming back home after waiting five hours to see a doctor and being told it would probably be another 3-4 hours. While Dave was waiting to see a doctor I quickly slipped into the yarn store to buy the above pictured wool. It has since turned into a Christmas gift for someone that reads this blog.

Cranberries are very good for preventing kidney stones (it also has many more benefits) so cheers to Dave.
I love, love, love cranberry juice and Dave ''hates'' it but he's making an effort. Below - the kefir I made last week... excellent probiotics.

Next pictures were taken on Saturday and Sunday - no explanation needed !!!!!

Below - our beautiful tiny village of Meteghan Station. I've lived here all my life and I love everything about this village.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and that you all found what it was you're thankful for.

Hopeful

Well my dear blogger friends, I think I have found my confidence in Frenchy's once more. I have hope that things are looking up as far as finding treasures at my favorite thrift shop. It was just last evening that I mentioned on my blog that I wasn't just buying anything as not to bring too much ''extras'' in our home. Tonight the weather was damp and wet so Dave and I decided to head towards Weymouth/Digby and hit a few Frenchy's. Well look here at all the stuff we bought. Hmmmm, I wonder if half of these are classified as ''extras'' in our home...

Let's see what's on the kitchen table - three books for Dave, three CDs for Dave, a leg-weight for Dave, 8 packets of buttons (6 of which are wooden buttons), headband for me, white curtain, a water glass, another bottle with stopper for homemade kefir (or some other kind of probiotic brew), 5 yards of burlap, a shopping bag, a small gym bag for our son and a cute pottery vase.

But the best find of the evening are these two pottery wall plaques.

He made the front page

Yup, that's my Dave on the front page of the french newspaper. After 13 years at the radio station he decided it was time for a career change. He got a new job in community economic development. Congratulations my love !

Frenchy tid bits

Lately I've been kind of disappointed with my visits over at Frenchy's. I've been coming out of the store empty handed. I don't want to start buying just anything for the pleasure of buying... you know, just because. I am trying to declutter our home so I don't want to bring more stuff home that we don't really need or that we won't even use. I had a few minutes tonight so I dropped into one of the Frenchy's and here is what I found for myself (see picture above) - vintage doillie, clip-on candles to clip on the christmas tree (wish I could get my hands on vintage ones like these), 5 pieces of fabric, a pumpkin made of some kind of papier-mâché and a glass bottle with a stopper. I want to use this bottle to make ginger kefir (more on this later).

******* Edited to add - about those plastic candles. I just had an idea... I think I will remove the plastic candle and replace it with a real wax candle. What do you think ?

Celebrating : Autumn

I've mentioned it a zillion times on this blog - I love autumn. It is my favorite season. It gives me a nice, soothing, calm feeling all over. I particularly like it just when Summer is ending and Fall is slowly flowing in - just when it's crossing over. Everything seems to be changing just about now, flowers are getting ready for Winter's dormant period, tress are dropping their leaves, squirrels are busy gathering pinecones for their Winter stash, there is a crisp chill in the air and I could keep going on and on...

Seems a lot of people are harvesting (family, friends and blogging friends)... filling the pantry with our bounty.

Things that make me fall in love with Autumn :

- color palette of amazing foliage.
- smell of composting leaves.
- harvesting apples.
- pumpkin pie.
- halloween.
- cooler weather.

Tabi and I want to wish everyone a happy October and may you each find joy in whatever it is you will embark on.

(And by the way, I must get rid of the long hair... me need a haircut).
